Chris Whelan

Chris Whelan is a Principal at RBB Economics based in Melbourne, and joined the firm in April 2011. He has 15 years of economic consulting experience based in Melbourne and London. Chris co-authored the research report “Cost Pass-Through: Theory, Measurement & Potential Policy Implications”, published by the UK Competition and Markets Authority in 2014 and is listed in Who’s Who Legal.

Chris has advised on nearly all aspects of competition law, including horizontal and vertical mergers, information exchange, vertical agreements, and misuse of market power. He has worked on cases in a range of sectors including digital platforms, finance, telecoms, grocery retailing, fast moving consumer goods, hard disk drives, public and private healthcare, ports, bus, rail, post, gas, and electricity.

Chris is listed in the Competition Economists chapter of Who’s Who Legal – Australia and New Zealand and is also a member of the Competition and Consumer Committee (Business Law Section) of the Law Council of Australia.

Chris gained a First Class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
