Ruben Savelkoul
Ruben Savelkoul is a Senior Associate based in RBB’s Brussels office.
He has advised clients on a range of competition matters including mergers and horizontal agreements, cartel damages litigation, and abuse of dominance investigations.
Ruben holds a PhD in Economics and an MSc of Advanced Studies in Economics, both from KU Leuven. Prior to joining RBB in 2023, he gained experience in competition economics working for another leading economic consultancy.
Ruben has worked on competition matters before the European Commission and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, as well as various other national competition authorities. These have included several multi-jurisdictional horizontal mergers and abuse of dominance investigations. He also advised clients on follow- on damages litigation.
He has advised numerous high-profile clients such as Microsoft, Analog Devices, Yokohama Rubber, IAG and several major tech companies. His experience covers a wide range of sectors including airlines, software, semiconductors, digital platforms, biotechnology, transport and tyre manufacturing.
Ruben has teaching experience ranging from microeconomics for non-economists to applied econometrics for experienced practitioners. He currently holds a lecturing position at Solvay School of Economics and Management, where he teaches Managerial Economics. Previous teaching experiences include a workshop series on applying econometric techniques at the European Commission’s Joint Research Center and a role as teaching assistant for postgraduate Industrial Organization at KU Leuven.
During his doctoral studies, Ruben has presented his research at several international conferences for Industrial Economics. His work has been published in “Information Economics and Policy”.
