Paula Mäkelä

Paula Mäkelä has over 6 years' of experience in competition economics, including as an economic consultant. Before joining RBB in 2022, Paula was a Principal Economist at the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.

Paula Mäkelä is an Associate Principal at RBB Economics based in Helsinki. Prior to joining RBB in 2022, Paula was a Principal Economist at the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA).

Paula has wide-ranging experience in applying competition and regulation economics to practical cases, both as an authority and as an economic consultant to private parties. As well as the FCCA, she has also worked at the Chief Economist Team Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission. Her work has covered a wide range of markets and she is experienced in several areas of competition law enforcement, including merger control, dominance and abusive behaviour and cartels.

Paula holds a PhD from Aalto University in Helsinki. She completed part of her PhD studies as a Fulbright Graduate Grantee at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, USA.

Paula is a Finnish national and speaks fluent Finnish and English.
