Katie Curry
Katie is a Partner based in RBB’s London office. She has twenty years’ experience working as a competition economist across a broad range of matters including mergers, litigation, Competition Act investigations and market studies. A former Economics Director at Ofcom, she has significant regulatory expertise and a deep understanding of telecoms and digital markets.
An experienced testifying expert, Katie has given evidence in various courts including the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT). Previously the Head of Econometrics at the Office of Fair Trading (a predecessor of the UK Competition and Markets Authority), Katie has significant expertise in the application of quantitative techniques to competition policy questions.
Katie advises clients on all aspects of competition economics across a wide range of sectors that most recently includes sports, technology and financial services. She has particular experience in litigation, having acted as an expert witness for Ofcom in numerous regulatory appeals and recently representing private sector clients in arbitration proceedings.
With experience of UK merger control from both sides of the table, she has worked at both predecessor organisations to the CMA (the OFT and the CC) as well as having advised clients on various Phase 1 and 2 investigations. She has worked on a number of high-profile abuse cases, including leading on Ofcom’s first ever Competition Act infringement finding (Royal Mail/Whistl).
Katie advises on regulatory policy questions in many of the UK’s regulated sectors, including digital, energy, telecoms, aviation and water. Her experience includes market power assessments, price control determinations, consumer policy interventions and auction design.
Katie holds a BA in Economics from Cambridge University, where she was awarded the Adam Smith Prize for best overall performance. She also holds an MSc in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.
