Benoît Durand

Benoît Durand is a Partner at RBB Economics, based in Brussels and Paris. He has over 20 years of experience in competition economics, and has featured in the Global Elite Thought Leaders list in Who’s Who since 2018. He is described in Who’s Who as “a very talented economist”, and “a favourite among clients thanks to his ability to simplify complex ideas and his excellent ability to answer clients’ questions.”.

Benoît has been a partner at RBB Economics since 2008. Prior to joining RBB, he was Director of Economic Analysis at the UK’s Competition Commission, now part of the CMA, and a member of the Chief Economist Team at DG Competition, European Commission. Benoît was previously based in Washington DC, USA, where he worked in private practice. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Boston College, USA

His experience spans numerous competition investigations in mergers, abuse of dominant position, horizontal and vertical agreements as well as state aid. He also acted as economic expert to quantify damages in numerous litigations.

While at RBB he has advised among others Telia Company, Nespresso, Google, Honeywell, British Airways, Reckitt Benckiser, Orange, Zimmer, Halliburton, DuPont, etc.

Benoît has provided evidence before the European Commission, and national competition authorities, notably in France, the UK, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Latvia, Albania and Singapore as well as South Africa.

Benoît speaks regularly at competition policy conferences and has published numerous articles on competition economics issues. He is also an associate editor of the Antitrust Law Journal.

He has been teaching competition economics for the LLM degree offered by the Brussels School of Competition since 2011 and to master students at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics since 2014.

He has also been a faculty in the professional course on quantitative techniques applied to competition law investigation offered by the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
