Alex Suchanek

Alex Suchanek is an Associate Principal based in RBB Economics’ London office. Alex has over eight years of experience working as a competition economist. Over this period, he has advised on a range of competition issues, with a principle focus on Phase II merger investigations raising horizontal, vertical, and conglomerate concerns, in the UK and at the European Union level.

Since joining RBB in December 2015, Alex has had significant experience advising on both Phase I and Phase II merger cases both at the UK and EU level. The EU cases Alex has worked on include Halliburton/Baker Hughes, ArcelorMittal/Ilva, Siemens/Alstom, 3M/Scott Safety, Metso/Outotec, GBT/Egencia, Aon/Willis Towers Watson, Viasat/Inmarsat and Broadcom/VMware. Recent UK and Ireland cases have included: Acerinox/Haynes, Phoenix/McCabes, Dawn/Kildare, eBay/Adevinta, Heineken/Patron Pubs, MFG/MRH, National Foster Association/Outcomes First Group and BT Sport/Eurosport.

Alex has particular experience and interest in local market assessments, but has wider experience across a range of sectors, including IT infrastructure software, semiconductors, manufacturing industries, internet platforms, the video game sector and fast-moving consumer goods.

As well work on merger cases, Alex also has experience in international arbitration and litigation matters, market investigations and studies. Experience in this area includes an international arbitration matter in front of the International Commercial Court in Brazil, assisting Sony with regards to ongoing litigation in Portugal, and assisting the preparation of a report for the Brands for Europe trade association regarding the EU’s proposed revisions to the Vertical Block Exemption Regulation (VBER).

Alex completed his MSc in Economics at University College London and his undergraduate degree in Economics at Durham University.
