On the 4th of August the South African Competition Tribunal cleared the proposed merger between Telkom and BCX with conditions. The transaction, which was originally prohibited in 2007, brought together South Africa’s largest supplier of fixed line connectivity and one of the country’s major IT services firms. RBB advised both parties in respect of market definition, unilateral effects, vertical effects and conglomerate effects, working alongside legal advisors ENS and advocates Frank Snyckers SC and Phumlani Ngcongo.
