Both companies are mainly active in the manufacturing of plastic preforms made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resins, which are tube-shaped intermediary products ultimately molded into PET bottles. RBB advised in relation to market definition and closeness of competition, conducting inter alia an analysis of bidding data, and a win/loss analysis. The merger was cleared unconditionally by DG Comp at Phase I. RBB worked alongside lawyers, Simmons & Simmons, advisers to Plastipak.
