Merger control in the digital age

On 17 October, RBB's Joan de Solà-MoralesJoan de Solà-MoralesJoan de Solà-MoralesPartner will participate in a panel discussing merger control in the digital age.

Recent cases involving Big Tech show that the authorities are increasingly ready to intervene based on complex and novel theories of harm. At the same time, the authorities are equipping themselves with broad tools to capture acquisitions and partnerships that may have previously flown under the radar. This session will discuss what these developments mean for M&A in the digital sector.

  • What do the prohibitions of Amazon/iRobot, Adobe/Figma and Booking/eTraveli mean for future M&A by major tech platforms?

  • What impact will the merging reporting requirements of the DMA and DMCC have on M&A in the tech sector?

  • How are authorities adapting their approach in response to the investments, partnerships and acqui-hires by Big Tech?

  • When is competition policy a threat to innovation and is there a way to balance the two?

The panel takes place on day two of GCR's Global Merger Control Conference in Brussels. The full agenda can be found on the GCR event page.
