RBB advised on the acquisition of Belgian mobile network operator BASE by Liberty Global. Liberty Global is the parent company of Belgian cable operator Telenet which operated as a mobile virtual network operator prior to the merger. The European Commission cleared the transaction on 4 February following an in-depth Phase II merger inquiry, subject to the divestment of part of the customers of BASE to MEDIALAAN. The Commission was satisfied that this was a sufficient remedy to safeguard competition in the Belgian market for mobile telecommunication services. RBB advised Liberty Global, working alongside Freshfields.
