The proposed merger between Rail Cargo Austria and Hungarian MÁV Cargo has been cleared by the European Commission, subject to divestment of structural links to a smaller player active on both markets. Despite initial concerns, the Commission was persuaded of the synergy potential of the transaction following an extended Phase I investigation.
