On 10 December 2010, the Netherlands competition authority (NMa) cleared the acquisition of Handicare by Nordic Capital, subject to conditions. Handicare is an international supplier of mobility products, including power wheelchairs. Nordic Capital manages a number of funds which own portfolios of firms, including Permobil, a competing supplier of power wheelchairs. The acquisition of Handicare would hence result in a significant addition of market share in the Netherlands. The Netherlands competition authority cleared the transaction subject to the divestment of a three power wheelchair models currently produced and sold by Handicare.
