Following a Phase I investigation, on 6 March 2025, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) provisionally granted unconditional approval to family-owned distiller and distributor William Grant & Sons on its proposed acquisition of The Famous Grouse brand. The CMA concluded at the end of the Phase I review that horizontal competition concerns were unlikely to arise as a result of the transaction in the supply of bottle blended Scotch whisky to both the on-trade and off-trade sectors.
The deal remains subject to approval in both Nigeria and Cyprus.
