Adrian Majumdar and Simon Bishop spoke at the BIICL 10th Anniversary Merger Conference in London on 18th October. Adrian chaired a panel on assessing mergers involving fast moving consumer goods, covering topics such as estimating closeness of competition, buyer power, private label products and the pros and cons of price pressure tests such as the GUPPI. Simon presented on developments in European merger control, discussing how coordinated effects should be assessed in practice and also the evolution of economic analysis, including data requests and standards of proof for empirical and theoretical analysis. The conference included speakers from the US Department of Justice, the European Commission, the Office of Fair Trading and numerous leading practitioners in merger control.
