On 15 October 2012, the European Commission unconditionally cleared the acquisition of the German press manufacturer Schuler AG by the Austrian technology group ANDRITZ after a Phase I investigation. The Commission examined the transaction with respect to its effects on the market for mechanical single presses for sheet metal forming. It found that in the lower pressing force ranges, a number of press manufacturers were active in Europe. In the higher pressing force ranges, the Commission found the supply to be more concentrated, but a more detailed investigation showed that the parties were not each other’s closest competitors.RBB advised ANDRITZ, working alongside Noerr LLP and Arnold & Porter LLP.
